the strategic partnership for university research at apl (spur@apl) began as a small program that grew into an all-encompassing collaboration with the johns hopkins university applied physics laboratory. the whiting school of engineering has long had a strategic partnership with apl and now brings all of the various education and research initiatives together under spur@apl.
research internships in science and engineering at apl (rise@apl) is a summer internship program for full-time johns hopkins university students majoring in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or physics who seek to strengthen their preparation for a technical career. this highly competitive summer internship program focuses on professional development.
rise@apl is offered to well-qualified, highly motivated undergraduates and graduate students who have an interest in engineering and applied scientific research and are attending jhu. participants in the program will have the opportunity to work at apl for 8–12 weeks, where they will be partnered with a staff mentor experienced in their field of study.

graduate fellows offers resident master’s and predoctoral fellowships for graduate students at jhu with research interests in science and engineering related to those of investigators at apl.

apl sabbatical professors/fellows in conjunction with a jhu advisor will recommend up to seven participants. apl selects and funds awardees. a jhu faculty advisor will monitor progress and annually recommend continuance. the program lasts until degree completion, pending advisors’ continuing recommendations.

the graduate assistantships program is designed for wse graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree while supporting and being sponsored by apl.
to be eligible for the program, an applicant must be a wse doctoral student who is a u.s. citizen. there must be an apl co-advisor to oversee the work at apl, and the research must be relevant to apl research and technological goals. students within this program can be supported for up to five years.

the sabbatical fellow and professorship program is designed to support collaborative efforts with faculty and students on projects of importance to both apl and jhu. this program provides release time (covered by a central laboratory budget) for apl staff members who hold or are pursuing joint appointments in other divisions of jhu to work with faculty and students on joint efforts. examples of such projects include:
all apl staff members are eligible for this program. to apply, applicants must submit a detailed plan describing how they would use their sabbatical time for a period of one year.

to further promote and 男女主超污巨细小说3facilitate collaborations between jhu 男女主超污巨细小说4and apl, this new program will allow jhu faculty to spend up to three summer months working on-site at apl on apl-sponsored research. jhu faculty will work full time on the apl campus while participating in the program.
the wse dean’s office will collaborate with apl to recruit highly qualified jhu faculty who will work at apl. a nomination is required from apl senior leadership through its assistant director for science and technology and the vice dean of faculty for the whiting school of engineering. each jhu faculty member selected to participate in the program will complete a participation agreement. jhu faculty participating in the program must be u.s. citizens.
